Jackson In Memory of Jackson On Friday, November 06, 2009 was a very sad day indeed for everyone at Sunrise Senior Living/ Live Oak Village of Slidell,La. Our beloved Jackson succumbed to old age. Jackson came to us in the Spring of 2007; Live Oak Village adopted him from Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue, a local golden retriever rescue organization. It didn’t take us long to become very attached to him! He would welcome each new day with his very special howl and we even got to see him “smile” quite frequently. He was very gentle with all of our residents, being mindful of the wheelchairs and walkers. It didn’t take him long at all to “learn the ropes” here at the community as he knew immediately that he didn’t belong in the dining room and would only enter into a resident’s apartment if he was invited. Jackson earned his keep as a very dear co-worker and a wonderful marketer. Prospective residents and their families felt right at home once Jackson put in an appearance. How wonderful to have the companionship of a resident dog! Our residents wanted to do something special in memory of Jackson. We knew that St. Tammany was in the process of raising funds for the first-ever Bark Park in Pelican Park. Bricks, that could be engraved with a special pet’s name, were being sold to help raise the funds. The bricks would then be placed in the walkway at the Bark Park. Our residents saved their bingo winnings, their families made donations and co-workers took up a collection until we finally had enough money to honor Jackson with his own special brick at the Park! Jackson will always have a special place in our hearts.
Jackson went to live in an assisted living facility in Slidell, LA. He will be loved by many people.
My name is Jackson and getting a forever home is my game! I am a very affectionate boy who loves kids (they taste yummy) and loves to play fetch. I bet I can chase a tennis ball every time you can throw it. I am a big boy (my foster skin brother calls me “Big J”) and my foster mommy is helping me lose my extra weight too. I am about 9 years old and have lived my life (before GSGRR) with my sister Lexie (just adopted to New Hampshire) outside, but now that I know what inside is that is where I prefer to be; with my people. I am house broken and know my basic commands and I get along with the cats. I am told that I am a really laid back golden and not very active inside! I am up to date on shots and heartworm negative and I have been neutered, whatever that means. I am a great boy; affectionate, smart, walk well on leash, and so very anxious for my forever home. Do you think you can help me find it? |
