Rebel went to the bridge in early Feb 2011. he will be dearly missed.
Rebel went to his forever home in CT on June 15th, 2006. His new parents flew down to LA and rented an SUV, picked up Rebel and are driving him home to CT to a farm so that he can play and play. update in February 2009: Rebel adopted us in June 2006. He was around 9 at the
time and pretty overweight 116 lbs. Now he is a very svelte 95 lbs.
He has so much energy for an 11 year old, (although we are not sure
of his age). He can still give his siblings a good run for the money
in the yard, even his little 1 year old Newfoundland puppy sister! Update in June 2008: Hi everyone! update as of June 23, 2006: Hi Jan! Hope this note finds you and your furbabies well. Rebel is doing great. He slept in the living room the first night. I think he was unsure if he should come upstairs and sleep with the pack. The second night we gave them rawhide bones to chew on and Rebel took his downstairs to the living room and tried to "bury" it behind the sofa and plant in the corner of the living room. Then he apprehensively came up and sat down on one of the 3 dog beds in the master bedroom, laid down, panted a lot and finally fell asleep. Since then, they sleep together in our bedroom and chew bones together. It's cute, they look like 3 golden logs of different shades, blonde, gold & red, chewing in unison.
Ruby has no issues because Morton is the Alpha, so another dog doesn't bother her at all. Morton and Rebel did a lot of posturing and dominance role playing the first few days, play-mounting etc., but they are getting along fine. Morton is still Alpha and Rebel is finding his niche in our little ecosystem here. Rebel loves attention and Morton does a lot of body-blocking, getting in between and leaning into Nick or I when Rebel comes near. (But Morton always did that, even if Nick & I are hugging each other or just laying in bed watching television, he'll come up and snuggle in between. He likes to be in the mix!) But they all lay on their backs, spread eagle for one another when they are playing. They are definitely getting used to having another in the brood because we know they would not expose themselves and get on their backs if they weren't comfortable with each other.
Rebel is surprisingly spry for a 9 yo guy! He is enjoying the central air conditioning and exploring the property. We have a little bridge and stream that is fenced off on our property and it's super muddy at this time of year. Our guys don't go into it. But who went headlong into it immediately after his bath?? Our man Rebel. We were cracking up! He's going to be a handful! We were thinking maybe he misses the wetlands in Bayou country...
We took him to our vet on Mon to have a Senior blood profile done on him. Doc said he is pretty healthy for a 9 yo. He has transitioned to Bil Jac Reduced Fat dry diet and gets a Derm-cap and a multi vitamin every day. He hasn't had any digestive issues. He had one accident when we first brought him home, but we're pretty sure it was more from the excitement of being in a new environment than incontinence.
Thanks for everything and we'll be sending some more photos as the summer progresses... Enjoy the hot weather & talk soon! Sue & Nick Rebel is very sweet 9 year old male that was surrendered by his owners (with whom he had lived since he was a puppy); because they moved to Virginia and decided that he was too big to take with them. Rebel is a healthy guy and heartworm negative, but came in overweight at 110 Lbs. He is on a diet and has lost some weight. He gets along well with all other animals. |
