Chloe went to the bridge on December 26, 2011. She will be missed a lot, esp by her golden brother charley. here is a super photo of Glen, her dad, and Chloe last summer.
Jennifer and Brad,
I am sad to tell you that Chloe is no longer with us. The morning after Christmas we had to put Chloe to sleep. Due to some unknown reason, Chloe’s back legs were becoming paralyzed or useless. About 10 days prior to Christmas Chloe’s back leg mobility started to degrade Over the next couple of days she slowed down even more and was having a tough time getting up from a laying position. We took her to our vet, who is outstanding. He said she had severe arthritis which we already knew and prescribed her with pain medicines. A few days later, just before Christmas, she was getting worse. She was barely able to walk and could barely hold her hind end up for long. We took her back to the vet and he took x-rays. He showed me the x-rays, which showed she had arthritis, hip dysplasia, two lumbar bones fused together and an anomaly of something floating in her hip, which the vet thought might have been from some previous surgery. He put her on a total of two pain medications and said he hoped she would get better. But he wasn’t sure what was causing her immobility, but thought it might be pain from the arthritis. Over the next few days, Chloe was unable to move her back legs, so we had to carry her outside to potty. She even started slowing down on the amount of food she was eating. It got worse where she was unable to support herself at all and we had to hold her up to potty. We could tell she was miserable. On Christmas day, she was no longer eating or going to the bathroom at all. She couldn’t even reposition herself while lying down. The day after Christmas our vet’s office was closed, but we called his emergency number and our vet didn’t know what to do anymore unless it was to give her different pain medication to see if it would relieve her pain and allow her to gain some kind of mobility. We could see in Chloe’s face that she was miserable and every time we had to carry her she was hurting. She had gone downhill so fast that we felt it was time to end her suffering. Our vet met us at his office and we had her put to sleep. Chloe was with us way too short a time. We dearly loved her. For me personally, she had decided she was my dog. I have never experienced that before. All the animals seemed to latch on to Helen or one of the kids. I guess because they were at home the most. Even Charley is having a tough time with the loss of Chloe. She was an alpha female and he just wants someone to tell him what to do; he is very much the follower. He would wait for her to eat and follow her outside. Chloe always had to be the first and they were both satisfied with that. Without Chloe, Charley hasn’t wanted to eat or even get up in the mornings, but he is slowly doing better each passing day. Chloe loved water very much, so I am attaching pictures of me and Chloe on a kayak on Lake Palestine on our family camping trip. She loved to kayak and play fetch in the lake. We had to force her to leave the water, because she would wear herself out. I am sad to give you this news, but I know Chloe was with you for a long time too. Glen
Chloe- adopted in March 2011 - she has captured the hearts of two retired Air Force members here in Shreveport. They love her and are still interested in finding a second Golden that Chloe will approve of! (they adopted charley on 4/9/11)
We just wanted to update you on Chloe. We are absolutely crazy about her. The more comfortable she gets with us the more vocal she is becoming. We get a lot of happy and playful growls and she makes woo woo (mini howls) sounds when she gets excited. She definitely brings a lot of laughter in the house. She also demands to be the center of attention by pawing us. We like to pretend we are ignoring her and she gets adamant that we will pay attention to her.
Name: Chloe Chloe is what we like to call the PERFECT dog! She was turned into the Jefferson Parish animal shelter due to her previous owner’s loss of a job and vehicle. She has been a wonderful guest from the moment that she left the shelter. Aside from being one gorgeous blonde girl, she is an extremely calm, well tempered Golden. She knows several basic commands like sit, come, down, speak and walks well on a leash. She is well behaved around our cat and gets along well with our two male dogs, but is definitely the alpha female of the group. Chloe enjoys taking rides in the car and has been wonderful on several road trips. She enjoys playing with toys especially tennis balls. Most of all she enjoys being near us and loves to have her ears rubbed as she suffers from chronic ear infection that is easily controlled with Memetomax. She has become more agile with increased exercise, play, and daily glucosamine at our home. It must have been heartbreaking for her owners to turn her into the shelter because she is truly one amazing beauty who deserves another wonderful home.
