Wedge now Edge went to the bridge on December 28, 2011. He will be greatly missed by his family.
We write to you tonight with heavy hearts as we have had to say goodbye to our beautiful Golden, Edge (formerly Wedge). We wanted you to know that Edge crossed Rainbow Bridge tonight, December 28th at 5:00, with his family by his side in Skaneateles, NY. He had a fine long walk at 3:00 and chased the squirrels through the woods. He was happy and tail wagging, but after the walk he became suddenly ill. The vet told us it was cancer that took him in the end, and although we weren’t there for Edge’s beginning, we shared in the best of his middle years. We adopted Edge from you on February 14th, 2004 and he has been a constant blessing in our lives. In his honor, we share the following tidbits: Edge started out as “wedge” and although, we couldn’t imagine any family naming him that, it didn’t take long to see why: whenever two people were gathered, Edge would use his nose and whole head to wedge himself in between them. If you were sitting side by side on the couch, he came in the middle like it was a “three dog night”. He had so much love to give, that he felt it was his duty to demonstrate it every chance he got. Edge was a firedog, having rescued his family from a burning fire in 2005. He literally dragged Mom out of the house by the pant leg. Any time the smoke detector went off, he was on high alert. Like all Goldens, he was happiest when in the presence of his people and especially when in the bed of his people! Recently, our son bought his first home with a big pond out back. Edge loved the pond and all the wonderful land in the woods along its border. So, we have lain him to rest on the hill overlooking the pond where we often sit on a summer’s eve to watch the sun set in the west. Tonight, our younger Golden, NOLA, mourns his loss and has dragged Edge’s bed next to her own. As we close this chapter of our life as dog owners, we have come to realize that in our 23 years of marriage, we have ALWAYS and EVERY NIGHT gone to bed with a Golden close at our feet. Tonight, we will sleep with one more Golden close to our hearts. Thank you to the staff at Gulf South for giving Edge to us. And for all the tireless work you do to help Goldens find their forever homes. Stacy and Dale
"Wedge went to his forever home with the Drake family on 2/14/04" Update in 2009: Hello to the folks at Gulf South Golden Rescue: We adopted one of your wonderful Goldens in 2004 and we often go to the website to see what’s new with your organization and to peruse the current adoption board and the success stories. We wanted to offer an update for our Golden, originally named Wedge. I sent an e-mail some time ago with an update, but it’s possible it was lost in cyberspace. When you click on Wedge’s link from 2004, a picture of Sam comes up. I’m not sure why, but we thought we should offer some new pics of Wedge (now called Edge) and an update. Edge is now a resident of the small community of Skaneateles New York, in the Finger Lakes region. He loves to swim in the lake in the summer (of course!) and romps through the snow mounds – and there are plenty of those up here this year. Edge is about 8 years old now. He made the trek with the family when we left New Orleans in 2005. Edge had a Golden soulmate named Emma whom we lost to cancer two years ago. He was looking for some company last year, so we added a second golden to our crew – and appropriately named her Nola. Edge and Nola have been sporting their beads today as we celebrate Mardi Gras in the COLD North. Edge finds pleasure in the small things each day – taking long walks, chasing birds across the lacrosse field, and working for treats. He loves to ride in the snow plow with my 17-year-old son as he does his early morning rounds. We throw happiness and hugs out to Edge every day and in return he gives us back 200% loyalty and friendship and FUN! Thanks Gulf South for giving us years of memories! Stace and Dale |
