Andrew

Andrew went to his
forever home in Bossier City, LA.
update from his
new momma:
Jan, Just
wanted to let you know that after a week, Andrew is fully integrated
into the family. We love him and are having a great time with
him! He is definitely getting accustomed
to being the only dog and "owning" his space. He does
bark at people walking by the fence and keeps the squirrel population
on their toes. I think my favorite thing is that he accompanies
the music played over the base speakers. At 5pm of course, we
have retreat and Taps is played at 10 pm. For both of those,
he cuts loose with a loud siren-like wail whch is a real crack
up. I guess he really is a "military family member."
He also plays with the toys we gave him and
tries to get us to chase him around the yard. Calvin loves to
have him around too and will often bring him in from the yard
for company. There have been only a few times no one has been
home and we have let Andrew be in the bedroom with the tv on
or let him have the kitchen/dining room/back hall area to roam
in. We leave the back door open so he can look out the glass.
He totally gets that it's a door now.
We walk Andrew two to three times a day. He's
doing very well with the leash and has met a number of neighborhood
dogs. He prefers their owners to the pets.
Andrew is sleeping on an old arthritic dog foam
bed of Amelia's with a different cover. We don't put him in
the crate anymore. It's still there and open and I put his water
in at night so he can go in to get it. I also occasionally give
him the crate command just so he remembers.
I don't know if you trained him to respond to
"come" or "no" but he does behave appropriately
to both commands.
All the workers and visitors know him now and
we still have people driving by or sitting outside who will
come over to meet Andrew.
I have attached a few pictures we took by the
azaleas. MOst have my husband in them because I'm the one who
said let's go get some photos. You can see Andrew gets lots
of attention. He's fascinated by Bob and follows him everywhere
when he's home. He had a marvelous weekend with "Dad."
Have a wonderful Easter weekend.

This to let everyone know that Andrew, the Golden
I rescued 1 year
ago from the Alexandria Shelter just before he was to be euthanized,
was adopted today ! Andrew now resides at the base Commander's
home (3 star General) at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City,(outskirts
of Shreveport )!
Today was bitter sweet, for I truly had become very attached
to
Andrew, and it was a sad day for me, but for Andrew, it was
truely a
real banner day because he finally got a home to call his very
own
that he so rightly deserves !
Andrew walked into the house and proceeded to check out each
and
every room both upstairs and down and then proceeded to investigate
and walk the perimeter of his new large back yard and decided
that
this home was pretty good and he immediately warmed up to his
new Mom
and Dad and obviously liked the idea that the General's Butler
and
House Servant was ready to spoil him too !
This is what rescue and being a Foster Home is all about ! Sure
makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when these precious Goldens
go to
homes where they will be loved and cared for the way they were
meant
to be !
I have an open invitation to visit Andrew anytime I want to,
and
since I go to Shreveport often for Doctor visits, I will be
able to
see Andrew quite often !
Jim just knew that I was never going to let Andrew be adopted,
but
the truth of the matter was, that I was waiting for just the
right
special home to come along for him and today it did !
