Bruno now known as Boo

Bruno went to his forever
home in Groton Mass on June 30th, 2007.
Update in July 2008: All is well with Boo. He's a wonderful,
wonderful dog. He recently passed his Canine Good Citizen test
and we are planning on taking him to nursing homes and assisted
living centers in the area. He's such a mellow, good natured
dog he makes friends where ever he goes. He's the perfect dog
for our family.
I enjoy my morning walks with him the woods. He goes off leash
and is great about staying with me or at least checking in before
he goes off on another excursion into the woods. His recall
was amazing once he realized he got treats when he came back.
Around noon he gets to go for walks with Alice who will also
bring other dogs for walks with him. His best buddies are a
female Golden and little Bellingham terrier. Alice says Boo
is a good role model for the terrier.
Boo enjoyed the snow but was very happy when things finally
warmed up and he could smell the ground and hunt chipmunks again.
There was only one time this winter when he cut short our walk
and wanted to go home because it was too cold. He loved to dig
in the snow and bury his head. Now it's lots of swims in the
pond behind our house.
He's very good with the kids - he's willing to be the friendly
shark or the neighbor's dog in their make believe games - and
always hopeful that they may drop some food. Speaking of which
his weight is down to 90 pounds. He looks great though you can't
exactly feel his ribs at least he has a hour glass figure from
above. He's still not showing any symptons of SAS. He'll go
back again in a couple weeks for another utlrasound to see how
he is doing.
Update on july 9th--We are up at my parents this week in Washington,
NH. They have a place
on a lake so the kids, Boo and I are spending the week up there
while Mike is in California. Boo is having a great time hanging
out by the water and going for swims. My Dad is thrilled to
have a dog to hang out with. Boo even got his own bed up there
with his name on it.
My parents have a full length mirror in their room and Boo was
staring into it - nose to nose with the "other dog"
wishing he would play with him. I think he misses having other
dogs to play with so we try to make up for that. And hopefully
the cats will realize he is not that scary
and he can hang out with them.
We went to a flea market in town with Boo and he got lots of
attention which he adored. After a while Boo and I hung out
by a bench watching the kids playing in the playground and a
woman came up and said she heard about Boo and just had to come
over to meet him. He's already a celebrity.
Boo and I will be coming up to the reunion on the 28th.
Update from his momma: First of all we decided to re-name Bruno
to Boo. Mike's Dad's name is Bruno and Mike's middle name is
Bruno as well so we decided we didn't want a dog with the same
name. Since we named our cats Scout and Harper after Scout in
To Kill a Mockingbird and Harper after Harper Lee we decided
to continue the pattern and name him Boo. We are hoping he adjusts
quickly to it and just thinks it's Bruno in a northern accent.
He has done so well today. We tired him out with some long
walks early in the morning and then spent the rest of the morning
hanging out with the kids. He was happy to sit in the shade
with me while the kids ran all around him. Then after lunch
we had quiet time in the house and he settled right in, lying
quietly on his dog bed next to my chair in the sun room. He
is already much better about not needing to be petted constantly
and relaxing in the same room with us. We've given him run of
the house today and no accidents at all - though we spent a
lot of time outside the weather was beautiful today.
The kids were more confident around him today and when Emma,
our two year old, went to bed she insisted on walking over to
him on her own to give him a hug and kiss goodnight. He was
such a good dog - as soon as he saw her coming he laid down.
Then after the kids went to bed he met our more adventurous
cat, Scout. He was really good. He was very submissive to her
and wouldn't approach her for a long time. She growled at him
when he got too close and he walked away immediately which made
a good impression on Scout! They are not friends yet but Boo
is definitely working on it!
We are so happy to have Boo be a part of our family. Here is
the picture we took yesterday after we gave him a bath and then
brought him inside. He likes his bed!
My name is Bruno
and I am a big boy looking for love!! I am the offspring of
two Golden Retriever parents and have the Golden qualities through
and through. I love children, gentle, love the water, love all
people in general, and get along with other doggies too. The
family cat was my best friend and I LOVE CHILDREN. Did I mention
that before? I have been known to follow any child home if someone
accidently lets me out of the yard. I am just looking for love.
I am fully vetted and heartworm negative. I
will be five years old in November. So you see I have everything
going for me except a “forever home”. Do you think
you could help me fulfill my greatest wish?
