Carter is a long, lanky, slightly clumsy 9 month old golden.
He was left, nameless, at a local shelter, where he lived for
a month before he was released to Gulf South Goldens. After
having Carter for 7 days, we think he may have been brought
to the shelter for the sin of being “a puppy”! He
is a sweet and relatively calm puppy that fits in well with
our family of 4 people and one adult male golden, and has been
very little trouble.
Carter is house trained and hasn’t had any accidents
inside. Like most puppies, he tries to chew on table legs, but
if we keep bones available he happily chews those . Because
of this, we crate him when we leave the house. He will start
to mouth our hands and arms when playing, but when told no,
he instantly stops. He rarely jumps on people and is not a barker.
In fact, we have only heard Carter bark one time, and his bark
was strong and deep. Barreling around playing, Carter will slam
into people and furniture. For this reason, a family with very
young children might not be best. He loves to play with our
laid back male.
Carter doesn’t seem to have had any obedience or leash
training. He does not know any commands and wanders and zig
zags on a leash. While out walking, everything seems new and
slightly scary to Carter. Because of his young age and lack
of training, Carter needs a family that will take the time to
train him as a good canine citizen. He has a loving and giving
personality. Consistent training time and loving attention will
mature him into an even more wonderful companion that will be
a joy to have in the family.
