Emma 2

Emma went to her
forever home in Medfield, Massachusetts on July 15, 2007.
"Emma"
was rescued from a backwater rural highway in Texas on April
4th by Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue and found her way
to her loving "forever home" with the Roses in Medfield,
MA, this past Friday, July 13th! Welcoming a foster dog into
your life is a gift in and of itself as the Goldens are typically
so appreciative, and, we volunteer because our love of the breed
encourages us to do what we can since those Goldens that we
have been blessed to share our lives with have given so much
of themselves, bringing sunshine with every wag of their tails.
But, when you get the supreme pleasure of meet the amazing people
that so willingly and enthusiastically provide that safe haven
full of love and nurturing attention for the dog you've grown
to love, well, the picture is as clear as ever. It works! Matching
the deserving Goldens with loving families is the reward. And
I simply adore the Rose family, and they so obviously adore
Emma. My heart could not be more full of gratitude and I know
I'll be in contact with these special people for a long time
to come. They will be bringing Emma to the NH Reunion on the
28th!
Jim, you sure were right when you forwarded
me Joyce Rose's application to adopt Emma. You said I was going
to love her, and I so do! These pictures will relay that Emma
concurs with your initial assessment as well. Thanks to all
of you who have been so supportive of me and Emma, for all your
encouragement and help. It's so great to be a part of Gulf South
Golden Retriever Rescue, and I hope you know how much I appreciate
all of you. Enjoy the photos!
Love, Tammy and Tribe!
I can't quite explain how much I treasured my
day with the Rose family, witnessing Emma comfortably and eagerly
settle into her new home! I stayed for lunch, dinner and was
even contemplating breakfast! These people were truly that GREAT!
Emma and I truly were blessed!
***********************************
"Emma"
has successfully arrived in Rhode Island, having made the
cross-country trek from New Mexico with her foster family--one
four-legged, two other GSGRR Goldens, and two elderly cats!
It was a
great adventure, and Emma did wonderfully sitting in the car
for hours
on end and enjoyed the rest areas and hotels quite a bit with
the rest
of the animal tribe! This young sweet Golden is UTD on all shots,
spayed and heartworm negative--a strong, and healthy dog who
is looking
for a special forever home.
Emma will need a home with a large fenced yard
and either an individual
or family who can devote a lot of attention to her as she develops
into
the magnificent Golden Retriever she is. Already she's blossoming
in
the first few months of being fostered by GSGRR. She's no longer
the
severely malnourished dog she was in mid-April when she was
found on
the side of the road in West Texas and brought into our program.
However, given the fact that she probably survived on whatever
food she
could find when she lived "on the streets" she still
has a strong prey
instinct and will enthusiastically chase every bird she sees
with
reckless abandon. So, she might not do well with an invisible
fence
like other dogs might. While she enjoys long walks on a leash,
she
definitely needs the space to run free in an enclosed and safe
fenced
area. She's already been "homeless" once, and we need
to do everything
we can to ensure that never happens again to this amazing dog!
Emma is a highly intelligent and loving young
Golden Retriever who is
eager to please, very obedient, but still has much to learn.
She
already knows how to love though, that's for sure! She's great
with all
animals, cats that are indoors and family pets and she is really
tender
and sweet with children of all ages. Likewise, she'll sit for
hours by
my side and would make an excellent companion for either a family
or
individual with or without pets. What's not negotiable is the
attention she needs as she learns to trust being a welcomed
and wanted
part of a family.
Evangelic "Emma"
is one sweet Golden Retriever who was rescued by a
traveler in Texas driving to the airport headed for home from
a
business trip. Imagine driving down the backwater roads of the
dry
desert on a backwater highway in the western part of the Lone
Star
State with tumbleweed and sagebrush everywhere, and then witnessing
a
darting golden ray of sunshine flit across the road! Alas, it
was an
abandoned dog, a little Golden Retriever at that -- who apparently
had given birth a few months earlier. Due to severe malnutrition
her
little body had simply not recovered from the demands of birthing!
Fortunately, this compassionate woman's heart
demanded she do
something, so she scooped up the dog and then went on a Blackberry
blitz, contacting every and any rescue group she could to help
her
save this dog. With no houses or businesses in the ten mile
radius of
where "Emma" was rescued, this resourceful woman convinced
the
closest town's receptionist to hold on to the dog that she would
have
taken herself had she not been catching a plane within 15 hours
until
she could get help! And that's how "Emma" became part
of Gulf South
Golden Retriever Rescue mid-April!
"Emma" was immediately vetted as she'd
be travelling back to New
Mexico with her foster mom and then living with her two Golden
Brothers, and two elderly cats! Although she initially had Coccidia
she was immediately treated, was found to be Heartworm Negative,
and
essentially a healthy pup with a heart bigger than her petite
body
would suggest! Despite having an extremely brittle coat from
obvious
neglect and malnourishment, in the past month she is beginning
to
exhibit the "feathering" typical of the breed and
her coat rivals her
foster brothers' thanks to a high quality puppy food.
She's now UTD on her shots and vaccines and
has been spayed! She also
has undergone strategic treatment for Roundworms which were
not
diagnosed immediately although she had been tested! Estimated
to be
around 14 months old, Emma is one of the most loving and generous
dogs! She also is quite needy of attention, now that she has
learned
that life is FUN! Cats are her friends, and she tolerates them
well,
but wants them to play constantly! I had no question that she
would
be good with children, but she thrived on their presence, so
interested and attentive!
This deserving dog does indeed have a heart
of Gold. She will evolve
into a magnificent Golden Retriever, and more training will
benefit
her greatly, and will be an easy task as she's intensely smart
and
receptive to training! She's finally overcome her voracious
gorging
behavior and trusts she will be fed regularly! There is no food
aggression or territorial behavior, yet she wants a lot of attention
and will nudge you endlessly to get your hand away from petting
another dog to acknowledge her. One can't help but laugh and
give in
because the smile that appears on her little face is priceless
when
she feels the human touch. I can only imagine that this dog
will
flourish each and every day with love and attention.
She'd do well with other dogs and with a family.
She's quite active,
does well on a leash, and loves the car! Emma can't be left
alone for
long periods of time, and if an individual had loads of time
for her,
she'd thrive in that type of one-on-one situation as well! This
is an
easy dog who has had a hard life! She's a special dog in need
of a
special life! She's versatile and energetic, but loves to be
pet and
sit besides you for hours in the garden or at your feet while
reading
a book! Throw the ball though, and she's at that too for hours
on end!
This sweet foster dog has enlivened our house
and brightened our
days! Do you have a heart to match hers, and a life that can
tolerate
more love than you thought possible? If so, this dog is the
one for YOU!
