Hank

Hank went to his forever home in Westwood Mass on October 4, 2007.

Update on July 7, 2008:

Hank has finally stopped charging the camera so I will send you some pictures soon. Would you please remind me to whom I should send them? I must tell you that we are currently vacationing at my In-laws summer house in the 1,000 Islands and Hank is having the time of his life! He loves swimming in the river and chasing all the ducks. He was very nervous to get onto the motor boat to get to the island, but once the boat got going he was so happy. He is such a good boy!

Thanks.
Kelly

Update from his new momma on November 5, 2007:

Hi Jennifer: I keep meaning to e-mail you, but have been waiting for a good picture to include. Hank keeps rushing the camera when I try to take pictures! We'll try again tonight. We all love Hank. He is such a good, sweet dog! At first, it was so strange having a huge unknown dog in the house following me everywhere! He even pins me into the shower as he lays down right outside the shower door. Now, we cannot imagine our house without him. And, all our friends are amazed at our good fortune in finding such a calm, sweet-natured dog. I think Hank is happy, too. He seems to adore us all. A friend introduced me to a place very close to our house where dogs can run in the woods off-leash. The first time I met my friend there, I was nervous to let him off. But, he did great and came whenever I called. Now, Hank and I go there almost every day after we watch Dan get on the bus and drop Matthew at pre-school. Hank has made a few dog friends with whom he likes to play and he loves to run in the woods. On Friday, Matthew joins us. Hank is completely trained on our electric fence and loves to catch balls and sticks in the yard. Hank has also joined Tom and me on runs and is usually a good partner, although he pushes my pace a little. Hank is also the star of our dog training class! All the families and dogs love to play with him and think he is so handsome. He listens to Tom and me best, but is starting to come, sit and stay for the kids, too. His feathers are starting to grow longer. I think the before picture was him. The other night when he was looking at me I saw the dog in the first picture.

Thanks again for all your help in our choosing to adopt Hank. We are thrilled with our choice. I think I'll send GSGRR a donation this December.

Best regards, Kelly

Hank is only about a year old. For such a young dog, this medium-sized, cinnamon-red male is surprisingly calm. He has puppy energy for walks and play, likes to run and get the ball and sniff noses (docilely) with other dogs, but doesn’t pull on the leash (much) and settles down into napping around the house quite easily. His number one characteristic is his super sweet disposition! He would love to be your constant companion, always ready to lie down beside you with a nose on your foot or a head in your lap. He is great with other dogs and with kids, even a just-learning-to-walk 14-month-old toddler, but does like to chase cats. So a house without cats or an owner willing to train him not to chase cats would be best.

He is completely house-trained and has not had any kind of accident in the three weeks that his Atlanta foster has been keeping him. He was abandoned by the side of a busy interstate in south Louisiana for what reason his foster mom can’t begin to imagine. She has never had an easier time with a rescue dog. Hank may have a little Lab mixed in – perhaps? – as he has a white patch on his chest. He’s about 65 pounds now but should put on another 10 or 15 as he is still underweight. His velveteen fur is short but growing back, as he was shaved when brought in with a tangled, matted coat. He is already neutered, up to date on shots, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, and is heartworm negative. This guy is so nice, he is just a darling dog and will make any golden lover very happy as a loyal companion.
