Hello all!

I just wanted to send a note to let you all know how Honey & Remy are doing because it's been so long.  They are doing great!  Both had their annual check up back in February and all is well.

Remy continues to be Remy.  He came to us with a reddish color face and he's gone white on us :-)  His face, around his eyes has changed to white and he's grown some gray on the top of his back.  I've never seen a dog who loves his people as much as he does.  He keeps us warm at night by laying right up against you.  If he's not laying up against you, he'll move his way around until he finds you.  You were right when you called him "Romeo" in his bio.  I love when he gets up in the morning and puts his head right on your stomach just waiting for you to pet him.  Then he rolls on his back and kicks his legs in the air, until you scratch his belly and furry it is!  He's become such a BIG spoiled baby!  He missed Honey when she went in for her surgery.

Yes, surgery.  Apparently, the two of them were playing and she got her front toenail caught in a blanket and it ripped off, hanging on by a thread, exposing the vein underneath, so you can imagine how sensitive that was for her.  After the first vet visit, they wanted to do surgery because she was very sensitive to them trying to get the rest of it off and the mail actually cut into her skin so it wasn't falling off on it's own either.  So under anesthesia she went.  She did great but did not like the bandage too much.  She walked around like she had broken her paw.  Poor thing.  Needless to say, that didn't stay on more than 24 hours so we just kept her from getting too crazy with Remy and it healed pretty fast.  Then we thought she had allergies, rubbing her eyes, squinting, then oozing started.  So the normal vet prescribed medicine, thinking conjunctivitis or allergies.  After 2 weeks, no change.  Off to the Opthamologist at Katonah Bedford Veterinary Hospital, in Bedford Hills, NY.  If anyone ever asks, I HIGHLY recommend this place!  They were WONDERFUL!  They got us in the very next day and within 10 mins of our visit, they diagnosed her problem.  She has KCS (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca) or better known as dry eye disease.  Basically, we are her tears for the rest of her life.  The tear gland is not producing enough tears to keep the cornea moist, so her eyes were trying to compensate by making this mucus stuff in her eyes.  They think the anesthsia she had for the surgery triggered it but said it would have eventually come out over time.  It's been a few weeks on the meds and she's doing better.  She hated getting anything put in her eyes.  I swear her eyelids became the strongest muscle on her.  Now, if I walk up to her and she hasn't had the medicine in a few hours, I really think she's telling me it's time by getting down on the floor like she does when I'm about to put it in.  I think she likes how it makes her eyes feel.  The doctors said she would eventually warm up to it.  We go back on the 27th for a followup.  I know there's been improvement, I just don't know how much.

Anyway, just thought I'd drop a line and let you know how wonderful these dogs have been and thank you again for bringing them into our lives.  They are the best and I wouldn't trade them for anything!  I've attached some pics for your viewing.  Enjoy!

It will be Honey's and Remy's first Christmas in their forever home in Connecticut. Remy was adopted in Jan. of 2008 and Honey in Nov. of 2008.

Update in April 2009:

Just a friendly "hello" from CT. I've been looking at the website and we wish we could open our home to more of thsee dogs. They're so special. Zak looks like such a sweetheart!!

Remy (Remy-o) and Honey (Honey-Bear) are doing great. Remy picked up his nickname of Remy-o, just like Debbie said in his description, he should have been named Romeo! He is such a cuddler!! He's gotten whiter (grayer) around the eyes and a little on his back but the fur under his belly has really come in. We remember when he came to us a year ago how there was so little hair on his belly. Honey picked up her nickname because the name, Honey, makes me think of Winnie the Pooh and my friends horse's name is Pooh (nicknamed Pooh Bear). It makes me laugh when they play. Either one may start it but it's usually Remy who's done first. He either runs out of the room and tries to sneak back in on his futon or he just plays dead. It's funny to watch them steal each other's bones, usually Honey starts this. Remy will be chewing his bone, Honey comes over, with no intention of playing at all, but nudges him as if she wants to play, he gets up and she swipes the bone even though there's another one just 2 feet away.

Honey has been doing some peculiar things lately. She eats the dirt in my plant by the back door, I have to now cover it with aluminum foil to stop her from eating it. She also digs on the hardwood floor where she likes to lay down, sometimes the rug. I've put a blanket on the hardwood floor and that seems to have stopped the digging. Since we've had her from December, we haven't had a thunderstorm. We just had out first loud one earlier this week. We weren't sure how she would react. She was very "on-guard" but ok until we went to bed. We have a spot below the headboard of our bed and she crawled behind there a couple of times. I was afraid she'd get stuck but she managed to somehow turn herself around in such a small space and make it out.

We've been having nicer weather where we've been able to be outside. I think Remy got a little annoyed at Honey the first time we were all out together. Honey thought - "more room to play" and proceeded to play with Remy. Remy didn't like it because he was only familiar with playing with her inside but now he runs in circles and Honey tries to keep up. Remy is well trained on the fence and Honey is also doing well. There are still some areas of the yard that she hasn't been introduced to, like the front yard where they wouldn't be playing anyway, only when they go out the front door for a walk or ride in the car.

Well, I have to get back to work. I'll shoot over some more updates as the Spring comes and we're outside more. We're hoping to get them up to a lake in town to see how they like going swimming but we're waiting for nicer weather to come. It'd be great to have pictures & videos to send you all.

Take care......until next time........

Update on honey-

I wanted to give you all an update on Honey & Remy since the
weekend when Honey came to live with us. Honey is doing great,
she's really settled in and eating well. Remy has welcomed her
into our home and they get a long so well. She still hasn't
figured out when my alarm goes off in the morning, it's time to get
up, unlike Remy who only let's me hit the snooze button once. The
first day Honey came home, the two of them played maybe once but
Remy was still unsure about what was going on. Now, they play all
the time and I can see Remy enjoys having Honey around.

We gave Honey & Remy a bath on Sunday. Remy LOVES to be brushed.
You can do it all day long and he wouldn't move. His fur has come
in, quite long I might add, under his belly. Honey doesn't mind it
either until you get to her tail, she tries to mouth your hand.
Something about it that she either doesn't like or she thinks
you're playing. We're working on it with her. She probably needs
to be brushed more often then Remy because she has more fur. She
reminds me of a plush teddy bear. She's so soft. Remy still
cuddles more. Either way, they both get so much lovin' from all of us.

They enjoy going for walks together although Remy has to lead the
way. She's learned what her leash looks like so as soon as one of
us picks it up, she knows it's time for her walk. She has a vet
checkup with Remy's doctor on Thursday. Since she previously went
through the fast method treatment for Heartworm a while ago, she
and Remy both will be re-tested in February 2009. We're hoping for
a double whammy of great news! Remy is still taking his ivermectin
each month like a good boy.

Honey seems to like picking up socks and shoes and we've been
working with her to "drop" but she would rather play tug of war
instead. She loves playing with Remy's rope toy. She plays tug of
war unlike Remy who likes to shred it. This is his 3rd one this
year.

I've attached some pictures of the two of them together. Trying to
get them together in front of the tree was almost impossible. Too
bad I didn't have the camera handy when Remy climbed under the
tree during their play session! We'll be lucky if it's still
standing Christmas morning. Anyways, enjoy the pictures!

The Kuzia Family

Name: Honey

Age: 4 years old

Gender: Female

Neutered: yes

Weight: 70 pounds

UTS on vaccinations: 5/08

Heartworm Status: treated for heartworms 11/08 and now on prevention

Honey is an owner surrender. The owner went to college and wants Honey to have a home that has time to enjoy her. Honey is long and lean. She has been well trained in basic obedience. She will sit on command, down, and "paw". When someone approaches her and puts out a hand, Honey will automatically sit. She is house trained and does not chew on household items. While she tests our response to her trying to get on the couch, she immedately gets down when we object. Honey does not like the crate, preferring to sleep next to her people, but we are working on the crate training.

Honey was mostly an outside dog in her former home, and doesn't seem to mind being outside. Unlike some goldens, if she is put outside, she will not bark or scratch to get back inside. However, if the door is open, she usually opts to be inside with us.

Honey is a medium to high energy dog. She needs a home with another dog to play with or where she gets daily exercise. Given attention and exercise, Honey will be a great addition to some lucky family. Please inquire about Honey is you think she a good match for your family. Whoever gets her will get a true friend.
