Jerry went to his forever home in NH on
September 2, 2007.
Update in July 2008:
Hi Jeanne,
We received your recent email and read about the reunion in September.
I do hope to go if I can juggle around my son's soccer games. It
sounds like fun! I hope your summer is going well. Check out this
picture from Mount Agamneticus (SP?). I don't know who had more fun...Jerry
or the kids- oh wait that's right, Jerry is one of the kids! - Liz
Update in February 2008:
Hi Jeanne and Jim,
That "mild mannered dog who minds well" just passed his
first basic
obedience class. The instructor recommended us to go to Canine Good
Citizen classes next. Hooray! I was never worried about Jerry's
ability- more my own ability to do our homework each week. That
still is a challenge but I am trying to work some training into our
daily routines. Whatever the case, "our" dog is headed in
a
wonderful direction. Just wanted to share and put a smile on your
faces. No need to reply, I know you are busy finding more homes for
our furry friends.
Fondly,
Liz
Update from his momma in January 2008:
Hi Jeanne,
> I just wanted to give you an update on Jerry, a lovely fellow that
> you helped my family to adopt this September. I know Jerry was
> born down south but I really think he was meant to live in New
> Hampshire. He just LOVES the snow! He has filled in some since
> arriving and he has become quite the acrobat when chasing
> snowballs. During our first snowstorm I wasn't even able to take
> any pictures because he was racing around the backyard snoofling
> the snow with his nose to the ground. His favorite thing to do is
> to go outside with my two kids and play. Too cute!
>
> As for everyday life he has settled in beautifully. He sleeps in
> his bed at night, and he has graduated from spending time in his
> crate when we are gone to hanging out in the gated off bathroom.
> This is good because it gives him more room to move around and he
> can look out the window at the squirrels. What makes me laugh the
> most is the way he nudged his way into our hearts. My husband who
> was formerly a "no dogs on the bed" type of guy now calls Jerry
up
> for a snuggle before settling down for the night. When I read in
> bed at night not only does Jerry come up to visit me and my cat,
> Sadie, he actually will come up and put his head down right next to
> mine so I can feel his hot dog breath on my cheek! Hahahaha! He
> even has the manners not to stay too long and takes off for his own
> bed when he's ready. He is soooo affectionate and he just makes me
> laugh.
>
> Over Christmas we spent time with all kinds of family and pets. I
> was impressed with how gentle Jerry was with my grandmother (89
> years old) and my husband's grandmother (92 years old). It was
> clear that he knew not to push into them too hard and to put his
> head on their laps so they could pet him. He did so well with all
> of my nieces and nephews too. He loved everyone and he let them
> all know it. My folks have a cat, Muffy, who had recently been
> operated on and Jerry listened so well when we gave a "leave it"
> command. He even stood there patiently while Muffy wound around
> his legs and sniffed him.
>
> On the flip side, our golden fellow still has lots of puppy in him.
> Jerry has discovered a love of Lego tires and can be found chewing
> on them. This is easy to figure out as he will walk up to you
> with an extremely sheepish look on his furry face and I will then
> have to dig it out of his mouth. He also continues to be attracted
> to stuffed animals and we will be visiting Goodwill again soon to
> purchase a few more for him. Occasionally he will try to get one of
> the boys' stuffies and we will have to rescue it. I look at it as
> a wonderful incentive for them to pick them up off of the floor!
>
> As for obedience, Jerry is really making progress on the
"stay" and
> "come" commands. Now I need to work on these when he is in the
> presence of more distractions so I am signing him up for some basic
> obedience classes. If this goes well I may pursue the therapy dog
> avenue but with two kids who are active in sports and teaching full
> time we'll just have to see how far we get. I can't help but think
> this would be a good experience for me and the kids as well.
>
> I recently read the January Newsletter from GSGRR. It looked great
> and had some wonderful stories. I signed up for the alumni group
> now I just have to email Malay and figure out what to do next. I'm
> not familiar with how to do discussion groups on the Internet! I
> probably missed some important step in the directions or
> procedures- we'll get there!
>
> I hope your retirement is going well and you have a powerful
> snowblower up in your part of the state. I think you have had more
> snow than our Seacoast area! I attached a picture of Jerry for you
> to make you smile. I thank God everyday for this dog and for the
> people like you who helped bring him to me out of the goodness of
> their hearts! Take care-
> t
My name is Jerry. I came from a Baton Rouge shelter and I am a handsome
red boy with a lot of life in me. I am between 1 and 2 years old. I
really like to play and my foster dad thinks I am still just a pup.
I get along well with all the other dogs. I am looking for a special
forever home that will love me always.
