Updated photos in april 2009

Kali went to her forever home in Baton Rouge, LA on
December 13, 2008.
Update in May 2009:
Hi Judy,
I was wondering if you can update Kali's success story in the near future and use a couple of photos that I had previously sent you that are very depictive of Kali's life now.
One is the family photo which shows Kali and our other dog, Dylan, and my husband and I and our two teenagers- Dustin and Rachel where we are sitting on the couch in our home and the other photo shows Kali and Dylan resting on the bed - they look so peaceful and cute together.
We have had Kali almost 5 months now and we no longer put her in her crate when we leave the house. She is completely trustworthy and can go in the crate if she wants to, we leave it open for her. She and our other dog have free roam in the house and have access to our fenced backyard through the doggie door. Kali is a very happy and well adjusted Golden and is such a joy to have in our family.
Many thanks to all of you at Gulf South GR Rescue for your time and dedication. It is not just the Goldens that benefit from this, but also those of us who are lucky enough to have adopted a Golden Retriever from you!

Update in April 2009:
Kali has been a dream come true for us from the minute that we brought her home. We lost our Golden, Cruizer, to cancer in Sept. 2008 and knew that we would eventually want another Golden. We have a German Shepherd who also missed Cruizer very much. We gave ourselves time for the grieving period and then began our search for a Golden . We are so glad to have adopted from GSGRR.
Kali has the cutest personality! She is very affectionate and well behaved. She is an excellent house dog. She learned right away how to go through the pet door to go into our fenced backyard.
Kali enjoys walks at the park and loves to ride in our van. She also loves her Nylabones. Kali loves playing with our Shepherd and actually talks to him! She is quite a character.
When we first adopted Kali, we noticed she had a lot of itching everywhere and loss of hair on her legs. A friend told us about Solid Gold dog food. It contains no wheat or ingredients that cause allergies in dogs. We tried it and saw excellent results. Her itching stopped immediately and within three months all the hair has filled in on her legs and body. Her coat is beautiful now. I would recommend this food to any breed that suffers from allergies and ear problems.
We just wanted you to know that Kali is very much loved in her new home by all of us: My husband and I, our two teenagers and our German Shepherd. We are so lucky to have adopted such a wonderful dog and thank all of you at GSGRR for the work that you do!
Sincerely,
Alina
Update from her family in March 2009:
Hi Margaret and Family,
It has been awhile since we have updated you on Kali. Well, we have now had her 3 months and 2 wks and she is such a sweet dog. She turned one year old a couple of wks ago!
She loves playing with our other dog, Dylan. She is a great indoor dog, but outside does love to dig holes and has torn up a few potted plants. I am sure she will outgrow that puppy stage sooner or later. She does not bother anything inside the house!
She was always itching when we first got her and so we put her on a dog food that has no wheat. It is made of bison and salmon. The name of it is Solid Gold and we buy her the kind for large breeds- Wolf King. Once she started eating this and nothing else, her itching stopped right away and gradually her hair started growing back on her legs. You would not believe how healthy her skin is and how beautiful her coat is now. It took about 3 months for her hair to grow completely on her legs and that is what the instructions say on the literature about the food, that you should give it 3 months and no other treats that contain wheat, etc. In fact we purchased the Solid Gold vegetarian dog treats and we put Dylan on the Solid Gold also, even though he did not have any skin problems. I highly recommend it for any dog with allergies/skin problems.
Kali enjoys going for walks with us at the park and around the block. She also likes riding in the van. Another thing that works great is Nylabones. We get just regular unflavored for powerful chewers and they last several months. When she sees I am going out and getting ready to put her in her crate, she runs to get a Nylabone to bring into the crate. We have a couple out in the yard and some in the house, because Dylan likes chewing on those too.
We hope all is well with all of you. Tell the girls that Kali sends a big hug.
Take Care,
Alina and Jamie
