Landon

May 2007-Landon at a local doggie walk on the southcoast of Mass, his sister chrissy is on the red leash behind him.

Landon went to his forever home on Saturday November 11, 2006 in Massachusetts.

Update in November 2007:

Hi Kathy. Finally got a CD made of Oct/Nov photos. The top seven were from Oct. 17, as soon as I got both Landon and Chrissy home from a full grooming. They both looked so soft and fluffy! The last two were from November. Landon was in Ed's lap in the recliner. He looks so sad and tired -- I don't remember what we did to get him so tuckered out that day.. Hope this isn't too many to send in one e-mail. Let me know if there's any problem and I'll resend. Fondly, Karen

Dear Jeanne,
I just read about this in the newsletter -- what a great idea! I'd
love to take Landon to meet some of the other adoptees and their
families, plus get a chance to meet Jim and some of the Southern
volunteers.

Ed and I adopted Landon on Nov. 11, 2006 and he is doing great. He
made it through his first New England winter without a bit of a
problem. I can't say that he loves the cold and snow like our 2-year-
old Chrissy does -- indeed, he tried to spend as little time as
possible outside in the cold. He was always right on my heels
whenever I came inside! But he did discover the joys of running in
the snow and chasing snowballs. He also decided that bits of broken-
up ice in a water dish were a very special treat. He was so funny --
thrusting his nose into the bowl, blowing bubbles, trying to get all
the ice! He never grew tired of that little game all winter long.

Landon quickly gained a few pounds with us -- went up to 80 pounds
but we are working to keep him at a healthier 75. His coat has grown
in longer, thicker, shinier. He's got a long, full tail and nice
feathers on his legs. He's quite a handsome fellow!

Thank you once again for your help in getting Landon home to us.

A couple questions about the reunion: WIll it be an all-day party?
Can you recommend motels in the area that would allow large dogs?
Please send whatever details you can and keep us informed. -- Karen

Update from his new mommy:

Hi Kathy. Landon's still doing great, and had a very full day today.

We all slept in the living room last night -- people in recliners, dogs on the floor, no one on their beds! Shelley our cat had the luxury of having OUR bed to herself.

We had a really loud but quick thunderstorm around 2:30 a.m. that woke us all up. First, Shelley came downstairs -- she nonchalantly passed right through the living room between the sleeping dogs -- and went to the door to go out. Then, Landon was up, following her to the door. Cat went out the side door, Landon went out the back door, and Chrissy followed. Dogs came in pretty quickly and nicely went back to sleep.

We were all up around 8 and after the dogs were fed, Ed and I felt they were gettting along well enough that we could leave them alone a short time in the back yard and went out for breakfast and an errand (more dog stuff -- leashes and rawhides -- to buy!) We were gone about 90 minutes and they were just fine.

We did a lot of toy-tossing and fetch in the yard today and we took both dogs for the walk to the nearby rehab hospital grounds. Our retired neighbors from across the street came to meet Landon, and so did their son, his wife and their lab, but his dog was not very interested in ours. Both dogs (and Ed) took mid-afternoon naps and I went shopping for a while.

After supper my friend Colleen and her young son came by to meet Landon and we all did more toy-tossing for the dogs. Then we walked to Colleen's house so Landon could meet her yellow lab, Clancy. There was a little male-dog barking on both sides of the fence, but they soon calmed down and we all went for the long walk around Sassaquin Pond. No swimming. Landon and Chrissy are both pretty well tuckered out now! (So are we!)

It's been a wonderful weekend, no accidents, no problems.

Tomorrow will be a work day for me and Ed, but I think when I leave for work at noontime Landon will be just fine with Chrissy for the afternoon.

Landon is Soooo good I can't believe it. You did a great job getting him ready for his forever home.

Sorry, no pictures yet but we will get to them! We were just too busy playing today! -- Karen

Landon is believed to be 1-2 years old and has just recently entered GSGRR. He was rescued from the pound by one of our area fosters 10/24/06. He is a beautiful boy. He will get vetted this week and neutered. Landon is timid to walk inside a home, loves to play fetch, and has the genuine golden personality. The consensus is that he is most probably 100% golden, but he has a shorter coat because of poor nutrition.

UPDATE:
Landon got vetted on 10/25/06 and here is a note from his foster mom:

Landon is in great health. He weighs in at 60 pounds, heartworm NEGATIVE and is just over one year old. He will be neutered as early as next week. Landon is ready for adoption.
