photos from his homecoming and his new home
Monty went to his forever home in Upstate NY on Saturday November 18, 2006. Update on April 6, 2008: Jeanne, Update on November 24, 2006: Hi Jeanne (and Jim),
Hope you had the happiest of Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful time with my parents here. I just thought I would give you a little up date on Marley (the most amazing dog!) Jim always said he was a “diamond in the rough”, but I must say he is a true gem already! He went to the vet two times on Tuesday. He went in the morning for a grooming to remove all of the matted fur under his ears and legs. They said (of course) that he was PERFECT. He even shook on command. When the groomer turned the water on, he just sat down and waited. We saw the vet later for his check up. He weighs 90.2 lbs!!! He is a big boy! The first words out of the vet were “This is a rescue?” He was wonderful for the vet who said he is very healthy, although maybe a pound or two overweight! He was not eating the Nutrena food that we had, so we bought him Science Diet Large Breed and he is inhaling it. 3 cups in the morning and 3 cups at night. He is doing perfectly at home with all of his training. He sits by the door to go out and get his leash put on and then sits again when he comes in to have it removed. He has only had one more accident in the house a few days ago. He was too busy playing to remember that he needed to go out. We have found that he is not very good at telling us that he wants to go out, but, if we ask him if he wants to go out, he only gets up if he needs to. I have been working on the “sit stay” command with him and he is doing very well. He will sit for about a minute with commotions everywhere. We will continue to work at this. The electric fence people were here today and he was soooo easy to train. One beep and he was done going near the flags. The people think that he may have been trained previously to an electric fence. Once he heard the beep, he wanted nothing to do with it. He gets walked about 4 miles a day! (And still has tons of energy.) He does well on the leash, but still is eager to chase cars. We are working on “deprogramming” him. He is definitely a mama’s boy. I went shopping with my mother all day yesterday and did not get to see him until around 5 p.m. Once I got home, he would not let me out of his sight and moped around following me until I sat down to pet and play with him. Of course, he cannot sit next to me but has to sit right on top of me! At least he keeps me nice and warm.
Just thought I would let you know how wonderful he is. Thanks for finding us this new member of our family! If I can in anyway help you and your organization, please let me know. My name is Monty. Do not let my size fool you. On November 16th I will be 1 year old and I am a big lovable boy. I love people and get along great with kids. At my new foster home I was introduced to a wonderful pack and now I really feel part of it. I am waiting for that special family that will take be in and love me forever. I am a big guy with a lot of love to give. |
