Oscar

updates in Feb 2012

Hello Alice,

Here's an update and 2 pictures of Oscar.   We adopted Oscar when he was a little puppy from GSGRR on 4/30/2008.   We kept his GSGRR name.  Oscar is doing great.  He is almost 4 years old now.  Every morning, my husband walks him before work.  Every afternoon either my son or I play ball with him in the backyard.  Oscar loves to retrieve a tennis ball or a frisbee for a small treat.  My husband built a pitching mound in our backyard so that my high school son can practice pitching.  Oscar loves it when my husband and son play pitch and catch.  He gets all excited that "the boys" are playing in his yard.  Oscar knows to stay clear away from the baseball and will lay in the shade and watch.  During the day, Oscar follows me from room to room in our house and keeps me company.  We keep our blinds on some of our windows pulled up so that he can look out the window to see what's going on in our neighborhood (see attached picture).  At night when we are watching T.V. he lays at our feet.  He is a beautiful, very lovable dog with a great personality.  Oscar is a wonderful companion and we love him dearly.  We are glad that we adopted him.  Our address has not changed.

Update in September 2008-

Oscar is growing so fast. He weighs almost 50 lbs at 6 months of age. We evacuated during Hurricane Gustav to Arkansas and Oscar was an angel during our car trip. Attached is a picture of Oscar sleeping on Michael's lap during our car trip. Oscar was also very good at my in-laws house and we were so glad that he was crate trained. We continue to work on obedience. Oscar does very well walking on a leash which we do at least twice a day. He is friendly to other people and dogs and stays by us when we walk. We will begin an 8-week course at Pet Smart beginning Sept. 12. All three of us will attend with Oscar so it will be a family event. We look forward to learning "new techniques" especially getting him to come on command when we call his name. Oscar continues to be a good boy and a great playmate for Michael. After school, they often run around and play in the yard. Attached is a picture of Michael and Oscar on Michael's first day of Jr. High School. We all love watching Oscar chase dragon flys in the yard which is his favorite thing to do. Believe it or not, we've actually seen him catch one. Oscar is also very sweet and gives us kisses. We like to say he is a "leg and toe licker".

Update from his new family on May 2, 2008:

Hi Malay & Judy,

I think we wore out Oscar playing yesterday. He slept all through the night and was very quiet in his crate. He was so tired and mellow most of today, too. We spent most of our day indoors today and he was very good and sweet. He followed me around everywhere and quietly watched me do laundry, empty the dishwasher, cook dinner, etc. He doesn't really wander around our house. Oscar is also making progress on the potty training. We only had one accident today. We went for a walk again on a leash and he did very well. We take Oscar on a leash to Michael's bus stop and he is a big hit with all the kids at the stop. Today when Michael got off the bus, he recognized Michael and went right to him and was all excited. It was very cute. Michael had a huge smile on his face. I think Oscar is getting comfortable living with us. He likes to be with us and is always in the same room with at least one of us. He likes to lay on us when we sit on the floor and also to play with us and his toys. He is a very good companion and has already won our hearts.

Thank you for rescuing him. He is going to be a wonderful addition to our family. Please tell us when you place Gizmo in his forever home. We think about him and hope the best for him, too. We are taking lots of pictures and will send.

My foster dad calls me Oscar. I came to live with him on April 17 after spending 2 weeks in a local animal rescue warehouse. I am about 8 to 10 weeks old and was found wondering on the streets in New Orleans, LA. I dont remember by parents that well, but I think one of them was a golden retriever. I am glad to be living with my foster dad and two golden buddies. I am up to date on my puppy shots and should be ready for adoption after April 24th. I get along great with other dogs and am really enjoying running and playing with two of them at my foster home. I am looking for a sweet family who will want many years of golden love. I am looking for my forever home where everybody will love me forever. I love to be hugged and held close so I can give you endless kisses. I have a cute belly which is always ready to be rubbed and scratched. I am ready to please you and would want you to train me to be a good and obedient canine citizen. I promise I won't let you down.
