JON and SAM

Sam and his daddy- gone but never forgotten

Yarrow, now known as Sam, went to his forever home in New Hampshire on June 11th, 2005.

Update on May 2009:

Lee,
Just wanted you to know Sam is doing very well.  The vet I took him to wanted to put him on medication that about four times a year he would have to have his liver checked,  that didn't sound good to me , for sure.  We went on a  proactive diet,  he has lost 20 pounds,  walks two miles everyday with Cookie , Dolly and me.  He is like a pup again.  The extra weight was putting so much stress on his skeleton  that it was causing the discomfort.  He hasn't starved and still gets his treats and seems quite happy.    I wanted to at least try to get the weight off of him and see if that worked.  The vet was very impressed on Friday with him.  Didn't believe it was Sam,  maybe it was his summer shave.
Take care.

update in 2008-

Dear Lee,

Just wanted you to know that Sam is wonderful , he and Cookie are getting along great. I took Sam to a new groomer this week and the woman came out with him raving about how he was the best natured dog she ever groomed and such a sweet dog. She wanted to know who the breeder was because she had clients that would want to know. I told her his story and about the rescue group. He really is a prize, Jon doesn't go anywhere
in the summer without Sam. Cookie is always along for the ride.

Hope all is well, take care.

update on july 18th:

Hi, just a quick Sam update, I don't know who is better for who. My husband is undergoing
very serious cancer treatment and Sam has been the very best medicine. He was talking to
someone on the phone last night telling him all about " his " dog, I finally had to include
the wife and kids are fine ,too. He is doing just wonderful, he chewed off the face of my 51 year old teddy bear, the bear will get a face lift before I do....that is not fair !
We love him so much, he has quite a sense of humor and I have found treats that he has learned to get into the closet to get ! Smart as a whip.
Sam still has problems with the cats, they just don't want to play like he does, if my husband gives me a hug he barks , he wants a hug too. I don't have an e-mail for Paula, if you can pass this along to her please do. He is just the best family member.
Thanks,
jane

Another thought from Jane--We are here to tell you this is one of the best things that have ever happened to us. We are taking the kids to Disney in Oct and I am " interviewing " places for him. We think we have found one, they have a pool for swimming, playdates , and turn down service with treats before bed. I have spent more time on his " camp " than I have for my kids camps ! Sam knows all the neighborhood dogs on his morning walk, I can do the two miles in 30 mins. With Sam it takes an hour so he can stop to visit every new friend.

Update on 6/25/2005:

Dear Lee,
I hope you had a wonderful trip. I just wanted to let you know that Sam is the best dog ! What a guy ! He will never be the best trained, for I feel all of Paula hard work is being undone as we are spoiling him. He goes for a two mile every day with me. Watching Jonny run with him { on leash } across the lawn is pure magic. My injuries are healing and except for trying to seperate him from Luke , 25 lb tabby, and falling down the stairs, I am doing very well !! He has his toys and treats and lots of hugs. He only is in the crate at night and last night he got tired and went to bed on his own. Sweet, sweet, dog.
Thank you so much, we love him dearly. He is at my feet right now.

Update from him new mom on 6/11/2005:

Lee,
Hi, just a quick note to let you know how thrilled we are with Sam. I gave Virginia the check and she looked at me and said " you be good to him " I have no doubt she would have some words with me if we weren't good to him. He has done well today. He seemed tired and so we let him decide what to do. We have worked on SIT, DOWN, CRATE, COME, all the basics. He is beautiful and we are sure he will do well with the cats and birds. He could care less about the birds and Luke the big yellow cat let him know right off that he was not to be messed with. Rosie is still in shock as this is the first dog she has ever seen. It will work out.

Thank you for all the hard work you do, it must be endless. We wanted to see Griffin but the new owners weren't
there when we left. I will send pictures and keep you updated about Sam, I talked to Paula tonight, she she has been wonderful, she reminded me not to spoil him.............I was giving him a cookie as she said that.......what are you going to do...he is already spoiled.

Thank you for our wonderful Sam.

Yarrow is a sweet young boy who just turned one this month. He has recently been neutered and is heartworm Negative. He is very active and eager to please and quite obedient. He is being fostered by a certified trainer for the first two weeks who says, "He is a wonderful dog that typifies the breed. He's simply magnificent." Yarrow could make a wonderful agility dog; he's so easily trainable and eager to learn. He walks well on lead and is a fabulous dog. His previous family left him for long hours on end and never allowed him in the house. This dog is too smart to be bored! He deserves a loving and attentive environment where the family enjoys being with him and can spend time with this truly remarkable dog who will give back so much!
