Autumn

Update on August 10th 2005:

Here's a picture of Autumn right after her trim, and she's out stalking lizards. She hunts them, and shows them no mercy, so we don't point them out to her anymore. She knows were all their spots are and makes her daily routine take in the Lizard Trail. I think the Lizards are finally wising up. Because her fur was so lush and soft, we found we had to keep her trimmed regularly because she is susceptible to hot spots, but we work on her constantly and she loves the attention and lets us fuss with her. She's not shy anymore!!!!!

Both are doing extremely well! Jack is always full of himself, and he is a big Red teddy bear also, he loves his daddy, bigtime and takes all opportunities to lay his head on his lap.

Autumn our ultra shy wallflower is now a ferocious full steam ahead, get out of my way Golden cannonball! She and Jack are best of friends. There is nothing better than being the parents of a Golden unless it's being the parents of two Goldens.

Autumn left for her forever home to join Paula and Don and her new fur kid brother Jack in Fl. We can not wait to hear what they think of her. 03/24/2004

Paula emails on 8/29/04:

"Autumn have definitely come out of her shell. At first she was extremely timid and clung to us like glue. It is amazing how she has developed with love and patience into a full fledge fun loving golden. We don't think she got to be a puppy, but she has definitely gotten that opportunity with us. At first she would turn her back to Jack, now its "Common buster I'll show you who can play"! Jack also is very sweet with her, he'll have a toy, and when he wins the tug, he'll bring the toy back so she can latch on again. Her thick hair compounded a hotspot problem, so we got good clippers and trimmed her all up. She and Jack spend the weekend frolicking in the pool, going in and out, and in and out. We love them both, and thank you for doing such a wonderful and humane cause as saving these beautiful dogs. Attached is a picture of our happy Autumn! Thanks again Don and Paula

PAULA WRITES ON 3/30/04.

Autumn is very willing to oblige the extra efforts we go through to keep Jack at a distance. No snarling today. Autumn goes in her crate anytime we ask her to. Jack out of curiosity went in her crate when it was empty and the door was open, my husband got him out immediately and told him no. Our very submissive Autumn shot up very fast and ran over to her crate and barge right in it. She was telling Jack that the crate was hers! That’s the first time I've seen her move that fast when it involved Jack and assert herself! Right now she's at my feet and Jack is at Don's feet and everything is calm and quite. Autumn loves to chase and fetch pinecones and sticks! She brings them back every time! She really perks up outside, so I think Autumn is hiding her true personality!

I even caught her today, while Jack was outside, finding toys and running them back to our son’s room and placing them on his bed, where she sleeps! Andy is very good and kind to her and she loves sleeping with him, she curls up and gets right next to him. Now he has someone to cuddle with. Jack sleeps with us, curls up like little puppy and gets right next to us as well. Last night he came up and put his head right next to me and I swear he was acting like a little baby!

A friend told us we might even want to put all the toys away for a while until Jack calms down, so there will be no fights over toys. Jack did pick the little bunny we bought for Autumn. I gave jack his goose and took the bunny and told him the bunny was Autumns but the big goose was Jacks. Autumn promptly took her bunny and trotted it back to our son’s bed! She's smart, I see it in a lot she's been doing. She knows how to use her paws to get a ball our from under a shelf, a ball even Jack didn't know was there!

It is very interesting to see the antics these two are going through, but I do think if we don't rush it eventually they will play and have fun, but we are taking it nice and easy.

She spent time in the crate today when I went to work and she and Jack did well. He has the run of most of the house even where Autumns cage is. Autumn has the cage, with fleece type pad, which keeps her safe and sound, and I think she knows it too.

Thanks you all so much for your help! Things are looking up! Don and Paula
