Brett went to his forever home in New Hampshire on March 19th, 2005.

Update on June 16th:

Attached are the most recent pics of our boys on Tuesday after their afternoon swim. Chauncy just turned eight months old and is going through a chewing stage. He is an absolutely sweetheart, though, and loves everyone. Monty has filled out nicely and has an obsession with greenies. He is a cuddler and continues to keep Chauncy in-line. They both completed level II obedience and are now in rally obedience classes. Monty enjoys them much more than Chauncy and he has picked up the agility aspects very quickly. Best wishes to all of you.

Update on May 16th:

Chauncy turned 7 mos. this weekend and is thriving. He absolutely loves his big brother, Monty, and they get along great. Chauncy is much more of a wrestler, whereas Monty enjoys running with his toys more for play. One of Chauncy's favorite activities is bedding down in the flower beds when I'm working on them. Monty absolutely loves car rides and runs out to the car each time he goes outside. They both enjoy running around the yard, swimming in the pond, retrieving their toys from the pond and chewing on the reeds around the pond. Chauncy's swimming skills are improving. Every now and then Chauncy will do a mini loop in the pond, each time a little further out than the last. His confidence is increasing. They're both in level II obedience and will probably repeat this class a few times before moving on to level III. They both start rally obedience at the end of the month. Our cats have become close buddies of Monty and Chauncy, too. We always know if the cats are trapped in a closet because Chauncy and Monty start crying for their buddies. They're so cute! Anyway, thanks again for bringing them both into our lives. We hope you are doing well and enjoying a beautiful spring.

Here is an update from his new mommy and daddy in NH:

Monty (Brett) seemed to have a great flight. He was very excited to see us, especially Steve. He has already developed a strong attachment to Steve. We're wondering if he was with a male owner previously. The drive from Boston back to Vermont was really good. Monty and Chauncy (is one of the Harvest of Gold puppies whelped at Jim Butts house) sat in the back seat together and were really well behaved. Monty likes to put his head on Steve's shoulder while he's driving. We gave Monty a bath, brushed him and trimmed his nails when we got home and he was fantastic. He's very patient in the bath and rolls over for a belly rub while his nails are being trimmed.

Monty loves to jump on the bed and stretch out on the couch. He knows quite a few commands, too. He and Chauncy are getting along well. He tolerates Chauncy's 6 mos. old puppy behavior and desire to play and lets him know his place and when Chauncy is going too far. Monty loves his chewies and is a very powerful chewer. He went through two healthy edibles, a very large bully stick and two greenies in less than four hours. We quickly learned that chewies now have to be kept away and taken out periodically. Monty slept through his first night at home without any problems. He's still really unsure of the snow and definitely isn't crazy about it. He prefers to stay on the muddy driveway whenever outside, whereas Chauncy can't get enough playtime in the snow. Monty is a little curious about the horses, but doesn't seem ready to check them out yet. He does okay with our cats, but we definitely need to work with him on not chasing them. If they go past him faster than a general walk, Monty initiates a chase growling and barking as he goes. Hopefully, they'll all get used to each other with time. We are taking Monty along tonight to Chauncy's obedience class so we shall see how he does in a room full of dogs. We're going to start them both in agility classes in May.

Thank you so much for bringing Monty into our family. He is such a lovable guy!

update on march 25th:

Monty did great at obedience class. He was a little distracted by the other dogs, but knew quite a few commands and picked up the others very quickly. He likes to play but gets annoyed easily by the smaller and younger dogs. He initiates play with Chauncy quite a bit, too, but gets annoyed with the little guy's antics. Monty is not possessive of his food, but his chewies are another story.

Both boys like to sleep on their beds in the bedroom and then jump up with us when the alarm goes off in the morning. The cats aren't too fond of it but they'll get used to it. Monty is getting a little bit more adjusted to the snow and enjoys chasing snowballs with Chauncy. He's still not too sure of the horses, though.

He is a pure bred 3 year old light gold boy. He gets along fine with other dogs. Does well with kids. Beautiful boy that will not last long. Brett pretty much ignores cats.
