Chasse now Grady

Chasse went to his forever home in January 2009 and will live in Long Island NY.

Update from his family in February 2009:

Good morning Jeanne and Alicia,

Just wanted to give you a quick update on Grady. He is fitting in much better and is learning his manners. He is a bundle of energy and we are giving him a lot of exercise. He loves to chew both on his toys and some other items that I am trying to break him of but I kind of anticipated his actions so it is not a big deal. He is smart but stubborn and still wants to test me. I found a lump on his left side and the vet fells it might be from some kind of trauma. He plays so rough outside I think that is where it happened. It doesn't bother him and he is on antibiotics to be safe. He will go back to the vet for a follow-up visit but it seems to be getting smaller. When I took him to the vet the first time he weighed 78 and last Saturday the vet weighed him in at 84. Believe he will fill out a bit more but not to much.

Saturday he will go to the groomer for the first time so I will be interested to see how he does. She allows all the dogs to roam freely in a penned area so this should be interesting. We have had some warmer temperatures so the lawn is a bit chewed up and muddy. Needless to say he gets into all of it and cleaning him off is a handful, but he seems to be learning from Chance and Indy about the routine.

Hope all is well with you both and will keep you posted on Grady's progress.

Best regards,

Chuck

Name: Chasse

Gender: Male

Age: about 1.5 yrs

Neutered: 12/19/08

Heartworms: negative

Chasse comes to us from the Plaquemine Parish Animal Shelter in Belle Chasse, LA. He was "out of time" when we got the call to rescue him.

Physical characteristics: Chasse is a big, strong dog. He currently weighs 88 lbs. He seems to be at a good weight though may be slightly thin. He has a large block-head and very large paws. His medium gold coat is still filling in. His mane has not yet grown in. He is a handsome boy.

Temperament: Chasse is a high energy dog. He is an alpha dog but gets along well with others. He enjoys wrestling with other dogs. He does not seem to understand the social reprimands that the older dogs give him. Everything is a game to Chasse. He seems to be a happy boy that has had little to no training. Because of his size and energy level, he would be best suited for a family that has no small children. This is probably not the best choice for a family that is novices to raising a young dog. He will need training and patience.

Chasse is learning to walk on a leash. Due to his strength we have switched from a standard training collar to a Gentle Leader. He has improved greatly in just a few days. He is also learning to “sit”. He seems bright but distractible. He does fairly well when alone as opposed to being with his foster brothers (2 male goldens). He wants to play when he is with the other dogs.
