Chaz

Chaz spent a long time with GSGRR but on april 5th, 2008, he went to his forever home.

another update in January 2009:

Hi Jennifer,

Chaz is great! He is as happy, playful, and cuddly as always. I can’t believe it will be a year in April that we have had him! I just can’t imagine my life without him now. If the rescue ever has a day at Audubon again please let me know because he would love to come visit. Let me know the name of your new foster so that I can see him on the website. I’m sure that the adoption will go faster now that you have him up there- that’s how I found Chaz!

Happy New Year,
Stephanie

here is an update in May 2008:

HI Jennifer,

I hope you had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon. I just read Chaz's success story on the website and thought I'd drop you a line and let you know that he is still doing great. You are so strong for not crying! I would have been balling for sure. But you were right that he adjusts to new surroundings quickly. He is pretty comfortable at our apartment now and loves to take over the couch and the bed. He is such a cuddle monster it's ridiculous.

We are still working on some of his puppy-like issues of chewing things when we are gone and peeing a lot when we get home, but I have no doubt that it will get better as he gets older. He loves his daily walks and I have started taking him to the dog levee which he absolutely goes crazy over. I found out that he really likes to swim! He is so social with the other dogs that he meets- I think he misses his brothers but we are making sure that he gets to play with other dogs at least once a week. I'm sure that a while down the road I will adopt another playmate for him, but he seems to like all the attention being on him for now!

We had an appointment with Dr. Abadie a few weeks ago and we have started Chaz on the first medication for his heartworms. He has two more weeks to go on the meds and then he goes in for the injection, which is a three days process. After that he will have six weeks of little to no activity and then he will hopefully be heartworm free. Dr. Abadie is really great so thank you so much for recommending him. He explains everything very thoroughly and has no doubt that Chaz will make it through the process with no problem.

I'll send you some photos soon so that you can put them on the website. I was also wondering if there is any way that I can volunteer to help out with the rescue. I can't foster right now but if there are other things that I could help with please let me know.

Stephanie

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I had the privledge of bringing Chaz to his new home in New Orleans. He will be living with a young couple in the uptown area that will love him deeply and continue his training needs! I ddin't cry believe it or not after having this dog for 10 1/2 months. He and I were quite attached as I was able to deal with his craziness a little better than my mom and Brad. I might have spoiled him and allowed him to get away with too much, but luckily I think his real mommy will do the same!

I will send the pictures soon. Right now I'm getting ready to head to Dog Day Afternoon with my mom and Rudy. The weather is lovely today and Chaz is going, too. I think.

Take care,
Jennifer

Update from my foster mom, Jennifer:

Hi,
I wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying being an inside dog. I have learned to sit, and I am working on greeting visitors more politely. I am a tiny boy, so I think that I can spend time in laps. Cuddling in bed with my foster mom is my favorite past time now that I don’t have to spend the night in the kennel! I do not have to use my kennel any more during the day or at night. I really like being close to my foster brothers all day long and we rarely get into trouble. I love to play with my foster brothers, and I love carrying tennis balls. My brothers try to teach me to drop, but I am just so excited to finally play with toys that I don’t want to let them go. When we play fetch every afternoon, I always go to tell my neighbor and her dachshunds hello, but not to fear because I come right back when called. I really like the company of other dogs and enjoy meeting my neighbors. My foster mom tells me that I am one smart boy. She keeps telling me that the perfect home is out there waiting for me and that my tiny size and intelligence should help me. I hope she is right!

My name is Chaz and I am a young and friendly golden mix and so happy that my foster parents picked me up from the shelter today because I was going to be put down. All of the workers at the shelter fell in love with me since I am such an affectionate boy. When I met one of my foster moms, I immediately gave her my paw and a kiss on the cheek to thank her. I am neutered and UTD on my shots. Unfortunately, someone did not take very good care of me and I have heartworms. Thankfully, the shelter started me on preventative.

When I got to my new foster home, I was introduced to two other Golden boys. I liked them both, and I was ready to play. I have not met the shi-tzus that live here, yet, but my foster mom will be sure and let you know how I react! As I begin to get more comfortable in my new home, I will let you know how I like it.
