Update on october 4, 2010

Judy,

Just thought you may want an update on a sweet red boy.  He's been going to school (LSU) with me everyday.  He went to rehab 3 times this week.  She's doing therapeutic ultrasound to warm him up and the underwater treadmill.  She suggested that taking him up stairs or inclines would help him build up his caudal thigh muscles, so we've begun going up the steps on the levee across from the vet school a couple times a week, plus walks with our sisters in the evening.  Needless to say, Deuce has been a very busy boy!  Everyone at school loves him!  He got to meet all of Buddy's friends in oncology.  He really does remind me of Buddy in a lot of ways.  He's the first to eat all his kibble, likes to drink out of the bath tub, etc.  No signs of any gastric foreign body or intestinal obstruction, so I think we're out of the woods when it comes to the slate tiles he had for breakfast!

Update on august 22, 2010-
Deuce is weekending here with me after his first week of rehab. He's doing very well, getting up and about on his own. He has some trouble, sliding on the wood floors but he does better on the tile.
His appetite is good and his temperament is wonderful,a real happy boy.

He will be looking for a forever home in several weeks.

update august 6- deuce's surgery went well and he is recovering nicely.

Sunday August 8th--Deuce was released this morning and is doing great. He can move around with assistance to stand and walk. He sits without any indication of pain. He will be spending the next week or so recovering with Jeff & Andrea's help. With all of Andrea's wonderful training as a 4th year LSU vet student he will be getting the best of care and plenty of TLC. As soon as he's ready he'll start rehab in Mandeville.

Judy,
So far Deuce is doing great!  He's quite the brave boy.  I put him in my living room on his bed and would you know he simply stood up and stumbled across the living room?  Now he has his own room so he does not wander.  He's doing great walking with just a towel underneath his rear end.  He is already trying to bear some weight on his back limbs.  He'll be getting passive range of motion exercises and cold packs for the next couple days as reccommended by his surgeon.  I think he's going to do fantastic!  Here's a picture.  Note that he is bearing some weight on his own back legs!  Please pass this along to everyone!

Name:  Deuce

Sex:  male

Age:  14 months

Intake: July 2010

Deuce is a 14 month old male golden.  Upon intake, it was noticed that he walked abnormally.  The vet stated that he had hip problems and sent him to an orthopedic surgeon.  He needs a double hip surgery (FHO) and several weeks of physical therapy.  If you would like to donate to help offset the cost of this surgery and rehab it will be greatly appreciated.
