Grandpa

"Grandpa left for his forever home in Maine on 4/30/04"

David writes on 10/22/04:

Hello, Bob and Melanie,
This is to let you know that Homer continues to be quite content with his situation here in Sangerville. He went through a time when it was hard for him to get up, owing to stiffness and discomfort. Once he was on his feet he was fine. We changed his food to a blend that includes glucosamine, and that seems to have helped. When I mow the lawn, Homer takes it as his duty to walk with me, two steps behind and one step to the left. We theorize that this is a learned behavior from his past; wonder how it came to be? Homer is strong and healthy and still likes to play. He wants attention, but has good manners and follows instructions well. We are glad we have him, and are grateful for the part you played in bringing him to our family. We have thought that it would be nice if his previous family could know that Homer is loved and is doing well here in the north.
With best wishes, and in appreciation for all you do for goldens and their families,
David and Sylvia

"Just a quick note to let you know that Homer, The Golden Retriever Formerly Known as Grandpa, is doing well here in Sangerville. A week ago we had our barnraising, with dozens of people around for two days, much chaos, etc. Homer was off-leash for some of the time, and acquitted himself very nicely. There were visiting 3 dogs: a Jack Russell, a young Golden, and an Australian Shepherd. Homer got on well with all of them (and may have taught them some manners).

Homer is feeling quite comfortable here. He has settled into our routine and is eager to please. He doesn't like to be chastised. He is still Mr. Velcro.
Hope the placement business is going well. I had a brief notion to call you about Belle, but it passed.
Sincerely,
David "
