Hank- adopted - Now Martin Hank is living on a farm in Northwest Louisiana- update in feb 2012
Hello Alicia - I can't wait to share an update with you! Martin (who was Hank, 2011) has become the pride, joy and love of my life! Even more importantly to him, probably, is that he has been instrumental in the emotional and social recovery of a rescued English Springer Spaniel (named Major, rescued in 2011). They are fast friends.
Martin lives with me and my human friend, Major the dog, a lovebird, 6 goats and 2 clydesdales on a large farm in NW Louisiana. The dogs have an active and fulfilling life and are with a human 24/7. They have a good routine which starts everyday at 5am with coffee and cuddles on the sofa. Then, down to the barn to care for animals. The dogs have their own private "stall" in the barn so they stay safe. Then, back to the house for a morning snooze. They get an afternoon 2 mile walk up to the lake daily, then back to the barn to watch goats get trained to do tricks and then to have their own training session. After barn animals are tucked in, back to the house for supper and snoozing on the sofa. Then, a good night's sleep and do it all over again the next day. Once a week, they go with me to the veterinary clinic for a pedicure and a bath. (They need it, as the farm walks get them DIRTY!) A very interes ting behavior trait became evident within a few weeks of Martin coming to live with us - he loves ice cubes! I mean, he LOVES ice cubes. He is willing to sit for long periods of time staring at the automatic ice maker until a human gives in and gives him a few cubes. In fact, it is so commonplace, we had to place an absorbent outdoor rug in front of the refrigerator to protect the wood floors from melting ice cube pieces that he missed. He cracks me up!!
I have attached a couple pictures. We love both dogs sooooo much!
Thank you for the good work you and your volunteers do. Keep up the good job! Corrine
I just wanted to give an update on "Hank", now named "Martin". He is doing well and has fit into our home very well! He loves living on a farm and loves going for long walks, which has really helped his sore leg improve. He knows many tricks, including "roll-over". Every morning we have coffee "together" on the sofa, and every evening we catch the news. In between, Martin is busy at all times with farm chores and playing with his brother. They adore each other! I am attaching a couple of photos of Martin and Major - they are inseparable. Thank you, thank you, for rescuing such wonderful dogs and giving them a second chance. I am so lucky to have been able to adopt my sweet boy! Corrine, DVM
here is a note from him on his first day in his new home. I have been at my forever home now for almost 24 hours and it feels like we have all been friends forever! It has been an exciting 24 hours! The most remarkable thing is the amazingly positive effect I have had on the very shy, insecure springer my mothers adopted 72 hours ago. The instant we met we were friends and the springer immediately came out of his shell. We played and jumped on beds until nearly midnight at which time everyone settled down and we both slept all night like perfect gentlemen. This morning we all had quiet time and coffee on the sofa before dawn. Then BREAKFAST! At dawn we all walked the 1/2 mile to our barn to meet the Clydesdale and the 6 goats. Both of us dogs were nonplussed about it all and happily watched from the safety of our special "stall" in the barn. By 7:30 am we were walking down our 2 mile driveway having a grand time and smelling things all the way. (I did grab a yummy bite of horse poop, but I didn't mention that to my Moms.) We got very muddy and dirty on our walk so we got introduced to the dog bathing area right away. I rolled in the grass as soon as my bath was finished. I was tired by then, so I went inside and the springer napped on a bed while I chose the cool hardwood floor. This afternoon we were introduced to our brand new 10x10 outdoor kennel and watched Mom work in the garden and we barked at the cows. (No one cared that we made a racket!). We chewed up our new toys and then had SUPPER! After that it was racing around the house, into the truck and back down to the barn. We were so interested when Mom let the goats out to graze and wanted to play, but the goats ran away. Mom says if we continue to be quiet and calm each day the goats will get used to us and since the goats already know tricks she might teach us to do some tricks with them! It is almost dark now and I am so tired I can hardly hold Mom's iPhone to type this. I'm going to sleep well tonight! My leg is a little sore from all the activity today but Mom says she is a vet (can that be true?) and has medicine to make me feel better. Well, that is my first day and I want to thank you all for being so kind to me and giving me foster homes but there is no doubt in mind I am in my permanent home and I am SOOOOO happy! Love to you all- Hank (though I think Mom is calling me Martin- I don't mind as long as the love and suppers keep comin' my way!)

Hank was pushed out of a truck by some uncaring person. Lucky for Hank a kind person saw what happened and picked him up, got in touch with a friend that's a vet tech and got him to Gulf South so we could find him a loving home.
