Chocolate lovers, this is your girl!  Lady Godiva looks like a small, sweet, chocolate Golden Retriever but, of course, there is no such breed!  She came from a hoarder in rural Mississippi where she was chained to a tree surrounded by many other dogs who were also chained up.  Unfortunately, from her appearance, it seems as though she got pregnant at least one time.  

A couple of days after Christmas, she was rescued along with almost 30 other small Golden mixes and was slowly socialized by some very kind women.  With positive experiences and love, she is learning that people are her friends.  

Although she is HW+, she has no clinical signs and her heart sounds good.  She is on HW preventative now to keep future HW's from developing and has started taking Doxycycline. Treatment with doxycycline to kill the Wolbachia parasite weakens the heartworms and makes them unable to reproduce, lessens their adverse effects on the body and greatly reduces the chance of adverse reaction during heartworm treatment. Despite her rough start in life, she is very open to being loved by people.  She will follow her foster mom around the yard and run and play with the other dogs.  She does not know many commands yet but she is learning to sit and come. She does NOT jump up on people.  She comes happily when called and has a healthy appetite.  

Her ideal home would be one with patient, compassionate, and caring people who will continue to treat her gently and show her that love comes from people and she should never fear being left out in the woods, chained to a tree again.  If Lady Godiva sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an application and mention her name.
