Leila now Dixie
Update on her new home: Leila is comfortable in her new home. Duke and she are getting along well. Duke is still a little crazy around her, but it is becoming less and less frequent. They are actually very cute together.
A couple things: - We have renamed her Dixie. Kids just couldn't warm to Duke and Leila. So Duke and Dixie it is. I took her to our Vet on Friday. She ran out of medicine and I wanted to see if the parasite situation had been resolved. Good news, no issue with stool sample. No surprise to you, Vet immediately noticed how thin she was. I actually think she has put on a few pounds in the last couple of weeks. She weighed in at 41lbs. I will bring her back in to the vet to have her weighed in a few weeks. Dixie is eating well, but also getting a lot of exercise. She and Duke play much of the day. Additionally, I take her for a run in the morning and walk in the evening. So I believe she is looking better, but Vet wants to keep an eye on her just to be sure. - Dixie is getting to know her new surroundings. When tired, she goes into her crate in the laundry room. She is sleeping in our bedroom on a dog bed we purchased for her. The good news is that she sleeps through the night. She woke me this past weekend to go out, which was a welcome surprise. If we are not attentive, and she gets caught up playing with Duke, she will have an accident. But this situation is getting much better. She will sit now for a treat, but doesn't get the "give me a paw" request. Still working on the digging in the yard and how to keep her out of the pool. I will keep in touch. Thank you for your assistance. Dixie is a real treat.

Leila is a golden mix that came to GSGRR from a shelter. She was picked up as a stray and was emaciated. With almost 4 weeks of good food and treatment for parasites, she is beginning to fill out. Given her age and current statistics, she will probably be a ¾ golden in height and weight. Leila is a sweet, sweet puppy that wants to please. At first she flinched when someone put a hand down to pet her, but she is now enjoying pets and cuddles. She quickly learned not to jump, though needs to be reminded with new people. She has been very good around children of all ages. Leila enjoys being inside with us, but will often stay outside when the other dogs have come into the house, enjoying exploring and basking in the sun. Leila came to us with no idea about house training. She still has accidents in the house, so her new family will need to brush up on puppy house training techniques. If you are interested in Leila, please fill out an application and mention her name. This does not commit you to taking her, but does allow us to evaluate whether Leila would be a good fit with your family.
