Manny adopted and living in New orleans LA

updated in feb 2012

Hello Alicia,

It's been nearly two months since Manny allowed me to adopt him, and he has brought such joy into my life.  I have had two previous Goldens (both named Max), who were both treasures, and Manny is following their example in being a great friend and companion.  Since he was called Manny for so long in foster care, I decided to keep his name.

He seems to be thriving:  he has gained 10 lbs since the adoption, but is still a sleek 75 pounds of energy.  His recuperation from the heartworm treatment has been a good one.

His foster mother, Diane, and I agreed that he should not have the ear canal ablation surgery (which would result in his deafness), and my veterinarian prescribed a regimen of daily enzymatic solution treatment of his ears to prevent the kind of ear infection he was suffering before.  The vet also offered his services in flushing Manny's ears every two weeks, at no charge (which is a big help).  As of Tuesday this week, Dr. Koenig reports that his ears show no signs  of infection and that he is pleased that the treatment we have followed for two months has been successful.

He has become totally acclimated to his new quarters, and is happy and content, as am I.  I have no current pictures of him to share, but will share them when I take some soon.

Bob

Manny is a very sweet dog that loves people and has easily integrated into our family.  Manny prefers people, rarely interacting with our dog.  Combine this with a compulsive need to take toys away from other dogs, and Manny would probably do best in a one-dog home.

Manny is a talker.  He greets us at the door with enthusiastic whines, growls, and barks.  He talks to us when he wants to go outside, he wants attention, or thinks a meal is overdue.  He also loves to be petted.  If we are willing to pet, he is there and won’t move until we stop.  He also enjoys being on the couch next to people. He can be pushy when asking for attention, but will stop and lay down if told no.

When he first came to us, his energy level was very low.  He has perked up greatly as his health has improved.

Amazingly, Manny seems to know the difference between dog toys and everything else.  Manny needs to be given indestructible toys.  He carries a toy around in his mouth constantly, and usually chews them to pieces within a day.  He now has a fairly indestructible toy.  He has only chewed one household item, a plastic furniture coaster.  He did this on a day he didn’t have anything to carry.  Other than the coaster, he hasn’t touched anything in the house in almost a month.
