"Hi this is Athena and here’s our story about Shelby. My husband Frank and I really wanted to adopt a golden retriever. That is all I ever wanted because of their gentleness, loving and beautiful air about them. We were going to fly over one from a rescue group outside of New Orleans and talked about it on the air (I work for 1053 the Zone) and we went to see a breeder but my husband did not feel right about it. We were going to rescue this other dog but the whole time I was thinking: all I want is a golden and there’s gotta be a rescue group here in New Orleans and that’s when I discovered Alicia, Jim and everyone and when we drove out to the farm. I knew who I wanted because she came right to me. I knew it was our baby, Shelby.

She was really skinny but we learned to feed her and fatten her up. She has grown and gotten bigger and is absolutely amazing.

Ever since we took her in I learned so much and she has a lot to learn too such as controlling her when we walk, learning to play with others. She has just been so wonderful.

They say she’s a mans best friend but I gotta tell you as a women we walk at least 2 times a day, bath her, hug, take her everywhere and she is my best friend. I think goldens are so human. They hug you feel you when you are sad. Truly I am so glad that we rescued her and I cannot ever imagine giving her up. Thank you for making this happen!!!! I wish I can afford more!!! Rescue a golden, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in along time!!"
