Sienna is one of those dogs that makes us wonder what kind of owner could neglect such a great animal. She’s got it all –Sienna is a beautiful, petite, smart little girl. She was quite a handful during the first few days in her foster home. She came in to rescue from a kill shelter with horribly matted fur and no manners at all, but within 24 hours she was already a different dog. She was calm through all three baths that it took to get her clean enough to come into the house and patient while the mats were clipped from her coat. She learned quickly that jumping would get her no attention at all and soon began to sit, wiggling and smiling, for treats and scratches behind her ears. Sienna weighs 57 pounds, and the vet says that she’s at her ideal weight, so she’ll stay on the small side for a golden. She currently tested negative for adult heartworms but should be retested in six months. Sienna is also spayed and already catching on easily to some early obedience work and crate training. She still complains when left alone in her crate but settles quietly after a few minutes. Sienna will need an owner who is committed to some consistent obedience training and exercise with her. She has a medium to high energy personality and shows signs of very limited interaction with people. She is mouthy and pushy when she wants affection. Stuffed toys don’t stand a chance with her, so I suspect she might have destructive tendencies if left unattended. Sienna is young – about a year old – and I believe she’s a diamond in the rough. Her desire for approval and affection makes her easy to work with, and in the kind of home she deserves, she will blossom into a devoted companion. She is happiest with people, whether it’s riding in the car or snuggling on the couch. Right now, Sienna is highly tuned in to every move I make, but I think she’ll eventually relax that intensity as she leaves behind the lonely life she had before coming in to rescue. She’s come a long way already and would love to bond forever with the right person.
