Sophie 3

Sophie went to her forever home on May 8, 2009.

Hello, All,

Sophie went to her new home in River Ridge, LA. today.  She has a very loving new family, experienced with dogs.  They are planning on attending obedience classes and have her first vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow.  We believe she will be very happy with them.

Update from her foster mom on april 18, 2009:

Sophie is a wonderful dog with many, many good points, the most important ones being her loving manner, great obedience and wonderful recall. She loves to retrieve and excels in completing our homemade dog agility course.  The first ten days she was with us we had NO problems.  The next two weeks were harder.  She became anxious whenever we left the house.  She chewed magazines, a shoe, and other random objects, even if bones and dog toys were available.  We started having to crate her whenever we left, no matter how short the time.

Now, after being with us a month, she has calmed down and found her place.  We leave her for short periods of time with the other dogs loose in the house, but crate her or leave them all in our fenced back yard for longer absences.  She sleeps next to my daughter’s bed at night without a crate, and hasn’t chewed during the night.   We would recommend her to someone who is home the majority of the day or who would take her to work.  Taking her to work would be easy.  She instantly obeys, loves people, and doesn’t bark at strangers!  She also sits when people put out their hand to pet her, a very, very admirable trait!

Sophie would be good with small children and active older ones that want to run and play.   An adult who takes daily walks would find her a great companion, since she is calm in the house.

Sophie is still young and full of life.  Give her praise and exercise, and she will fill your life with love and devotion.

Sophie will be a dream come true dog for the right family. We cannot sing her praises highly enough. My first thought when I saw her was “long and lean”. Then she jumped on our picnic table, 2 ½ feet tall, from a sitting position, and laid down for a nap, and we thought “Billie goat”. After watching her whiz through a dog agility course, “agile” was added to her characteristics. Sophie follows us from room to room, tryingto lie half on our feet, earning her “devoted”. Finally, she is always cautious, so a new family will need to be patient while she becomes sure of their love.

She jumps into the recliner with my daughter and curls up on her lap like a cat. She will go into a crate on command, but bloodied her nose trying to get out while we were gone one evening. Sophie knew sit and has quickly picked up “stay”. She also knows “roll over”. She has always come back when called.

Sophie gets along fine with our laid back 5-year-old golden male. Right now she plays some with him, but focuses more on humans than other dogs. She is very submissive, to the point of being easily frightened by barks or growls, so an aggressive alpha as a housemate should be avoided.

She has gone in an unfenced area and come back immediately when called.  She will occasionally jump on a person asking for attention.  However, her jump is so light an adult barely registers the contact.  She has not had any accidents in the house. Sophie walks very well on a leash and never pulls.

We will begin this week trying her with children and cats.  Since she is submissive in all things, we don’t think she will have problems with them.

If you want an obedient young golden who learns quickly and radiates devotion, contact us about Sophie.

Update- Sophie has demonstrated a bit of separation anxiety when left uncrated in her foster home. We are thinking that she needs to be placed in a home where someone is home periodically during the day or even all day long. Please don't let this keep you away from asking about Sophie.
