Tabitha
Tabitha went to live in Pensacola FL on august 9th and is joining a wonderful family. Update on august 30, 2009:
Well things around here with Tabitha are so wonderful. She is too good to be true. She goes everywhere with me....at work she does what she wants, goes in all of the exam rooms with the doctor, surgery etc.. She is very interested in all of the animals but is always curteous and strangely enough not a single patient (even mean ones) has ever growled at her. She must send off good vibes!! We go to work, Mon, Tues, Thurs and Sat and The Hotel (rescue group for animals in her town) in the afternoon of Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun. We go for walks at night with the kids riding their bikes and she is very reliable to go straight to the door or to the work door without the leash. She follows me everywhere but at the animal clinic has her own routine with the other girls but does keep tabs on me. The Dr. loves her.
Her heartworm treatment will start Monday. Her labwork and chest Xray in prep for it were normal She is very tired at night and has her place on the couch that she has claimed. She actually now does love balls...but only pastel colors . She is, as you know, very polite and a very girly girl. She's great with the kids and everone else, including the guinea pigs and a chicken that came into work with a broken leg!!
As you can tell , we love her. Please tell your Rescue organization Thank-you SO MUCH!!
Name: Tabitha Age: 1-2 years Weight: 55 pounds Immunizations: 7/7/09 Spay/Neuter: 7/7/09 Heartworm status: Positive Update from her foster momma: Tabitha continues to be an excellent houseguest. She walks well on a leash, it only took a little time for her to realize that pulling on the leash didn't get her anywhere. Also, she ran after our dog once into the front yard. We called them back. Our dog didn't return, Tabitha did! She continues to sniff around tables and counters, but her jumping on them has decreased drastically. She has started showing interest in retrieving balls, and has finally begun to initiate play with our dog. All in all, we think she is becoming comfortable with us and starting to show her true personality. She is a sweet, loving girl with little to no problems. Tabitha was one of 4 dogs turned into a shelter by their owner. Tabitha is very calm for her age and completely housetrained. She was crated for the first two nights. Since then she has had the run of our house night and day with no problems. She has placed her paws on the kitchen counter several times, but has not grabbed any food. When excited, she will pick up a person’s hand and gently mouth, then drop it. Sometimes she will lightly jump up trying to get us to play, but if told no, she drops back down. Tabitha also waits to be told she can go outside. After being with us only three days, on July 4th she attended a family party on 160 acres in the country. At the party were 15 new people and 4 new dogs. We spent most of the day outdoors. She rarely strayed from our side, preferring to lie close to us. She interacted well with the new dogs, though she never went off to play with them. This has continued to be her pattern, preferring people over dogs. Tabitha also was patient with the children. She did not play with them, but accepted the normal pets and hugs without any problems. Tabitha has no interest in balls. She does “talk” to us more than any other dog we have had in our home. When she comes inside, she will bounce around and talk. When she wants to go outside, she does not bark, but places her body in front of someone and “talks” until we get up and do her bidding. She did not show any fear of loud noises or fireworks. Tabitha is a darker red color, though her tail and feathering are blond. She easily makes eye contact. Tabitha likes to place her front paws on the couch to be closer to us. She loves chasing the squirrels in our back yard. We have not found any truly bad habits. She has no idea how to walk on a leash and is afraid of cars. She does bark at strange people and dogs, but not constantly. Tabitha is very receptive to training. She is progressing quickly on sit, down, stay and “leave it”. While not always 100%, she is consistently improving with just twice daily short sessions. If you are interested in Tabitha, please contact GSGRR for more information. We will honestly answer all questions. Our goal is to find a good fit between Tabitha’s personality and her new family’s lifestyle and expectations.
