updated photos in sept 2006
Texas went to his forever home in the South end of Boston on May 6th. He is well loved and every one is very happy. update from his dads: July 1, 2007
Hi Jim - we've been meaning to send an update on our wonderful Texas, who we adopted on May 6, 2006 -- now over one year of very happy family love with a truly exceptional, smart, loving and let's just say it, B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L animal. Near our home, we have a great park where other dog-owners from the neighborhood bring their pets for their morning and evening constitutionals.
There are many great dogs (well, all dogs are great, actually) in our 'hood - but EVERY single time we go there, Texas draws the attention of other dogs and their owners. "He's such a beautiful dog" "What a gorgeous color!" "Is he an Irish Setter?' and so on....
His personality is so warm and friendly - but he doesn't just wander up to people aimlessly -- he seems to look around, take in his surroundings, and then deliberately approach someone or another dog with a "Hi, how are you?" kind of expression. What can we say, he's really got some kind of charisma. We've lost actual count, but are estimating that his vocabular is now over300 words (English) and is now learning a bit of French, as we prepare for a summer vacation in teh south of France.
On the health front, we have had a couple minor medical issues - all resolved happily but in early-mid May, we had to leave him at the Animal Hospital for treatment of a gastro-intestinal malady - and with proper hydration, and a new HD-formula diet for allergy-prone dogs - he is back on his game and doing great. During his various check-ups, he was diagnosed "heartworm-positive" - caught very early - and has begun treatment, with a good prognosis.
Texas has brought so much joy, companionship, and love to our house. His boundless energy, his unending capacity to love, his innate understanding of human emotion, and his ability to distinguish the difference between his rubber chicken chew toy, and our summer beach sandles -- underscores the intelligence that golden owners love so much about their pets.
Here are few new pics of Texas -- we have thousands, as you might imagine! Thanks again for everything you did to make sure that Texas was able to arrive in Boston to be part of our family.
p.s. - we'll try to make it to the reunion in New Hampshire at the end of July -- sounds like fun!
Texas Texas is a young 8 month old golden retriever male who with the right nourishment is going to be a big boy. He was surrendered by his family when their circumstances changed and they had to move from a home to an apartment. He is neutered and up to date on shots and ready to go to his forever home. He minds well and has had a little obedience training. He is heartworm negative. Please help us find him a wonderful home. |
